Proposal for democratization of knowledge so that journal contents may be accessed and used without restriction in the Internet, by anyone without charge. The Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) proposes free availability on public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, with the possibility of searching for or linking to full texts articles, crawl for indexing, pass them as data to software, or using them for any other lawful purpose, without financial legal or technical barriers than the key to gain access to the Internet itself. The only constraint is on reproduction and distribution of published articles and the only role for copyrighting in this domain can not be other than giving authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly credited and cited.
